What are computer viruses?
A rough definition of a computer virus is "a piece of unwanted software code that has an undesirable effect on your computer".
What can a virus do?
Computer viruses can have some very nasty effects. These range from annoying messages to providing total access to your computer by hackers. Some viruses can let outsiders see files and credit card transactions. If you suspect you have a virus please telephone us immediately to arrange removal.
How can a computer be protected?
To avoid getting a virus we recommend you buy and install Antivirus software. This software needs to be understood, properly configured and properly maintained if it is going to protect your computer. Please contact us if you are not sure how to install, update and configure your Antivirus software.
A computer may already have a virus. What should be done?
If you already have anti-virus software installed and it is warning that there is a virus present on your system please write down all the notification messages. Also if you are receiving emails from others saying you have sent them a virus please keep these messages. You will also need to have the original installer disks that came with your virus software and your Windows installer disks available.
